Jackie Herman

B.A., MSW, RSW

Jackie is a Registered Social Worker who specializes in geriatric issues such as mental and physical health, caregiving, housing, and health and community resources. 

She obtained her Master of Social Work degree with a clinical specialization and concentration in Gerontology from the University of Calgary in 2006. She has experience working in several areas of geriatric care, including long-term care, outpatient stroke rehabilitation, community geriatric mental health case management, and a geriatric mental health rehabilitation inpatient unit.

Jackie has been described by her clients as caring, patient, and knowledgeable. Jackie started Centro Geriatrics as a way to help clients live as independently as possible, but also to assist them in accessing services when needed. She also knows the stress on families who may be caring for their aging relatives from afar, and can help to put their minds at ease.

Jackie has an expertise in counselling clients experiencing depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and adjustment issues relating to aging and health. She is also extremely knowledgeable about health and community services for seniors in Calgary.

In her practice, Jackie uses a number of therapeutic models including, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Narrative Therapy. She is also certified to administer and score the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA).
